The Mexican national team have been crowned the best in the league with a 2-0 victory over second-placed Club Atlético de México in a Copa MX quarterfinal on Tuesday.
The result was an exciting climax to the competition which has featured some of the most exciting football in the country, with the likes of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Sergio Aguero among the top stars.
The Mexicans scored the only goal of the match in the 31st minute, with Juan Pablo Sánchez slotting a sublimely curling effort into the bottom corner.
The scoreline would have been more impressive if it weren’t for a horrendous error by Luis Felipe Márquez, who had already won a penalty for Atlétco in the 34th minute.

The Argentine was involved in the first and second goals of the game, both of which were the perfect counter to Atléteco’s quick start.
With only one game left in the competition, the Mexicans will be hoping for a bigger result, especially after their defeat to Club América, which they now lead by seven points with seven games remaining.
The Copa America Centenario is an annual competition in which two sides compete in their respective countries and compete for a place in the semifinals.
The final, which will be held in December, will be a rematch of last year’s final.
The first-leg final between Club Amigas and Tigres was a thrilling affair as Tigres claimed a 2–1 win, but the second leg was a much closer affair with Tigres going on to claim the tournament.
This year’s Copa Centenario will be played in the United States, with Mexico and Canada playing each other.
